Juilliard Journal - May 2001
If all goes as planned, just a few weeks after the 2001 commencement, the new, improved Juilliard Web site will make its formal debut on the World Wide Web. It will have the same address as the old Web site (www.juilliard.edu). But that's where the similarities disappear.
The long-awaited, updated site -- which has been gestating for about a year and a half -- is to launch early in June, just in time for the new school year, according to Ira Rosenblum, the School's new Director of Publications. In addition to overseeing the School's print publications, Rosenblum, who arrived at Juilliard in March, will wear the Webmaster's hat. He is working on the design and development of the new site with Interactive Media Associates, a company that specializes in arts-related Web sites, such as those for the New York City Ballet (www.nycballet.com) and the N.J. Shakespeare Festival (www.njshakespeare.org).
The new Juilliard Web site will feature a home page with a Flash photo presentation, along with streaming audio clips from past Juilliard performances. In addition to offering complete information about the School, the site will also feature an audio welcome message from President Polisi (who provided the narration for an accompanying photo montage); a searchable calendar of events; and many other dynamic features that take advantage of the latest Web technologies. Once the site is up and running, Rosenblum said, he hopes to add features such as The Juilliard Journal online, a "virtual" tour of Juilliard, and possibly even live Webcasts from Paul Recital Hall or the Juilliard Theater.
