Parsippany, NJ (April 6, 2006) Interactive Media Associates, Inc. (IMA), a leading Internet marketing and development company, today announced that it is a winner in the 2005 Horizon Interactive Awards® competition. IMA was honored for its outstanding creative work for our work creating the Illinois State version of the "Could This Be Your Life?" interactive game for students ranging from middle school to adult learners, and for the New Eyes for the Needy Web site.
Illinois Center for Specialized Professional Support sponsored Interactive Media's adaptation of the game developed earlier for Rutgers University, with several additions. The original game allowed students to make real-life choices about career, family, and residence, to demonstrate how these choices can have an impact on their ultimate cost of living and quality of life. The application now includes a branch for students from middle school, high school, and college, as well as adults returning to school or looking for a different job. Each of these groups is represented by more highly designed personas, rendered through original illustration by Interactive Media designer Aleesha Punturieri. In addition, the earning and residence data, originally NJ-based, has been reprogrammed for Illinois.
The Illinois Center for Specialized Professional Support (ICSPS) is home to staff of educational grant projects, whose mission is to assist professionals in gaining the knowledge and skills needed for helping every learner to succeed. ICSPS provides services to secondary and postsecondary educational organizations through the College of Education, Educational Administration and Foundations Department at Illinois State University.
This site won in the category of Education/Training. Visit the site at www.icsps.ilstu.edu/IllinoisNTC/index.asp.
New Eyes for the Needy, which won in the category of Public Service, strives to improve the vision of the less fortunate by purchasing new eyeglasses in the United States and recycling donated glasses for distribution in developing nations worldwide. They wanted a site that would do more than portray their mission, however, and the site is full of resources for volunteers, agencies, optical dispensers, vision missions, and individuals seeking assistance.
Alyce P. Twomey, Executive Director of New Eyes for the Needy, reported that, "We started getting requests immediately, and have gotten online requests every day since the site was launched." The site contains touching photos and testimonials of people - both in the US and abroad - whose lives have been touched by this simple but significant act of charity.
